For years, Kris celebrated Valentine’s Day with her husband, Paul. But this year's Valentine’s Day may be the most eventful one yet. That's because it is their 25th as husband and wife, a landmark that would be meaningful for most couples but is extraordinary for them. They were both born with Down syndrome (唐氏综合症) and are believed to be the longest-married couple with the condition in the country.

This year's Valentine's Day is the first on which they won't be living together.

Paul, 54, is dealing with early-stagedementia (痴呆). Several months ago, the state moved him into a community residence with special nursing care. The couple was disappointed but not daunted. Kris visits Paul regularly, and they spend weekends together at the community residence, where Kris still cooks for her groom.

The ongoing effort to keep them togetherreminds Paul’s mother, of all the obstacles they have overcome. She remembered how some doctors told her “not to expect much” when Paul was born. Instead, he grew up to live a successful life that included a marriage lasting a quarter century.

Kris has had her struggles too. Then and now, she still encounters the occasional stranger who laughs at her abnormal behavior. The truth is, those people have no idea how rich and rewarding herlife is. They cannot see the commitment that lasts after 25 years, and is still very fresh today “to have and to hold, in sickness and in health.” And they cannot see how, as Kris sits in her own living room recalling those vows (誓言) from her wedding day, she is surrounded by photos of herself with the man who changed her life.

1. Why is this year’s Valentine’s Day so extraordinary for Paul and Kris?

A. Because they have been married for 25 years.

B. Because they won't be living together as their conditions become worse.

C. Because they are a couple of Down syndrome with 25-year marriage.

D. Because they are said to be the longest-married couple in the country.

2. What does the underlined word “daunted” mean in the third paragraph?

A. Approving

B. Discouraged

C. Excited

D. Delighted

3. Why is Paul’s mother mentioned?

A. To stress her influence on Paul.

B. To highlight the struggles Paul has experienced.

C. To compare the parental love between families.

D. To show her understanding towards life and marriage.

4. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

A. A Marriage Lasting 25 Years

B. A Love without Limits

C. A Couple with Down Syndrome

D. The Most Eventful Valentine’s Day

NASA's Parker Solar Probe has survived a three-year journey and a roughly 2 million degree Fahrenheit(华氏摄氏度)environment to do what was previously thought impossible: enter the sun's atmosphere. The Parker Solar Probe launched in 2018. It has now circled the sun more than eight times and "touched" the sun for the first time when it entered the corona(日冕)— the low density(密度), high temperature upper atmosphere of the sun — in April 2021, according to data published inPhysical Review LettersonTuesday.

The probe's mission was to learn more about solar winds, which consist of particles (粒子) that influence the earth as well as magnetic zig-zags called switchbacks(“弯折”结构), and the sun's surface temperature.

“Parker Solar Probe touching the Sun is a remarkable moment for solar science,” Thomas Zurbuchen, the associate administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Head quarters in Washington, said in aNASA press release. “ Not only does this milestone provide us with deeper insights into our Sun's evolution and its impacts on our solar system, but everything we learn about our own star also teaches us more about stars in the rest of the universe.”

During its travels to the sun, the probe discovered the solar winds' switchbacks became more frequent close to the sun. Once they arrived at the sun's corona, researchers discovered that the switchbacks were likely formed near the sun's surface, but how they were formed remains unknown. If these questions are answered, researchers maybe able to understand why the corona is millions of degrees hotter than the sun'ssurface. The probe also found that the surface of the corona isn't smooth, as some researchers originally predicted. When the probe approached the sun's atmosphere, it went in and out of it several times, leading researchers to conclude it has "valleys" that "wrinkle the surface."

Next, the solar probe will get closer to the sun and hopefully reach a distance of around 4 million miles from the surface. The probe will reenter the atmosphere in January 2022.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Harry, from Chesterfield, is going to be 11 years old. He always wants a proper birthday party but it's always been difficult to arrange because he is an autistic (患有自闭症的) boy. It is hard for him to understand how other people think or feel. If a kid falls over in the playground he might smile. He's not evil-minded. It's just his face and feelings do not match up. Unless you know him, you can't understand the thing he does. He's a really good kid, just misunderstood. Because of autism, he's not been invited to a party since kindergarten, which makes him seem to be left out.

In order to make Harry not feel lonely, this year, his mother Hannah, 31, put an appeal for birthday cards for Harry on her social media because she wanted Harry to feel "included" and"less alone". Much to her surprise, more than 200 cards flooded in her mail box within a week, some from as far as Dubai. With more arriving everyday, she felt crazy and overwhelmed.

When Harry said that he wanted to have a party for his 11th birthday, the parents took action again. At first, no one but his family had planned on coming, they even couldn’t fill one lane. Struggled to get more people to come, the mother turned to social media once more and the result never let her down. More and more people sent cards and some of them started offering to come to the party as well. It turned out that people with children Harry had never met responded by helping to fill out the venue.

On Harry’sbirthday, about 30 children in total attended the party. Some of them were from school, some of them were family friends, but some of them were children Harry had never met before. Among them was a boy called AJ, who also has autism. Having found out the event from Facebook, he came with his father eagerly. Although it is generally difficult to attend the party for an autism suffer, AJ felt different this time. “He feels really good when going to Harry’s birthday party as both of them are inspired.” AJ ’s father said.

The party means a lot to Harry who was scared and nervous but also excited. As an autistic boy, he felt it hard to interact with so many people at first. But with the help of his parents and the smile on everybody’s face, he gradually adapted to the celebration atmosphere. The moment more than 400 birthday cards from various places were presented to him, Harry was yelling for excitement. Everybody was immersed in happiness, some for being cared and some for caring others.
